Amar Kaushik's directorial debut Stree starring Rajkumar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor challenges the modern society using role reversal and emerges to be a fine work of veiled sarcasm with a tag line so apt - 'Ab Mard Ko Dard Hoga'. Stree weaves together the double standards of men in our society, issue of women purity, and scare of a long died woman who haunts the village men in a platter full of humour, horror, and sarcasm.

The story is set in the village of Chanderi haunted especially during the four nights of an annual religious event by a witch called Stree. Stree was a former sex worker, who along with her love was killed by the townspeople, now turned into a witch who returns on particular four days each year to seek revenge. The situation of men of Chanderi is somewhat similar to women of India- curfew after sunset to avoid being disrobed against will, mauled or worst.

At the center stage is Vicky, the tailor, played by Raj Kumar Rao who meets his dream girl, a nameless woman in town specifically for the puja. When Vicky's friend Jana (Abhishek Banerjee) disappears, Vicky and Bittu ( Aparshakti Khanna) decide to search for Jana, with the help of Rudra (Pankaj Tripathy) who is a self-proclaimed expert on all subjects.

The script is crafty and the portrayal of Chanderi ensures the movie is a stunner. The music is forgettable and the end lacks momentum, but the cast masterfully keeps the viewers hooked to the very end. This wonderful recipe for cinema comes together with the presence of Rao's immaculate acting prowess and a supporting cast who shine in their individual roles. Kapoor keeps the spook alive. There are moments when you feel some horror is building up but then you are left wanting for more. Stree made in 118.96 crore is a huge commercial success having grossed 118.96 crore already. Overall it is a more fun less horror must watch once movie! SO get your tickets if you haven't yet.
